Committee rules on a disciplinary issue (3B).

Steve GerrardThe BFSFA committee have gone through the proper process and ruled on a decision that effects the Division 3B table.  The Loft FC beat both Automedon on 16/11/08 and Pulcinellas Reserves FC on 30/11/08 but on both occasions played an ineligible player and deliberately falsified the teamsheet.  Both results have now been reversed to 1-0 wins for the respective teams and in addition the Loft FC have been decucted a further six points.  The table on the sister site has been amended and I'm sure the one on Fyldesport won't be too far behind.  Keep it fair, keep it honest, respect your opposition and respect the BFSFA.

Sportspy Reports - Sunday January 25th 2009.It appeared as though it rained every day last week so it was of little surprise that there were a number of waterlogged pitches across the Fylde this weekend.  One venue where we were guaranteed a game was Commonedge Road.   Division 2B leaders Fleetwood Cricket Club FC were in town on a raid from up the coast to try and gain three more more points toward their title challenge.  In the way were 8th placed FC Talbot who had shown some signs of improvement in recent weeks.

News from the Carberry Cup match – January 14th 2009.

News from the Carberry Cup match - January 14th 2009.This evening saw the annual Carberry Cup match that takes place each season between a BFSFA Representative XI and a Preston Sunday Football League XI.  This years match was at home and took place at the ground of Blackpool Wren Rovers.  Here's a very brief match summary.

The BFSFA retain the Carberry Cup.

Unsurprisingly for mid January it was wet, cold and breezy but at the third time of asking the game was on at Blackpool Wren Rovers, a ground that hasn't seen much action since late November.  The referee was Lee Willetts with Dave Wolfenden and Rickie Parr as his assistants.

Manager Spedding started with a 5-3-2 formation with Dave Stevenson in goal behind a back three of Kevan Ford, Chris Morris and Pete Taberner.  Paul Carroll was left wing back opposite Scott Sugden on the right.  In midfield were Robbie Boal, Sam Gorrie and Danny Whittaker with Danny Rowe and Chris Cairns up front.

Preston started brightly and created a number of scares for Stevenson who was finding his handling a little tricky with the wind and rain in his face.  On 11 minutes Chris Cairns had the ball in the net for the home side but referee Willetts ruled it out for a foul on the defender.  On 29 minutes the best chance of the half initially fell to Danny Rowe who sold a dummy and fired it in from the edge of the box.  A Preston defender did well to block it but the ball deflected across the six yard box and Whittaker was unlucky not to get his toe to it.  The last fifteen minutes of the half were uneventful with both teams cancelling each other out in the middle of the park.  Goalless at the break.

The BFSFA kicked off the second half with the wind on their backs.  Wrea Green's Matty Kirkham replaced Stevo in goals and Anthony Warwick came on at left wing back with Paul Carroll switching to the right.  On 50 minutes the BFSFA took the lead.  Whittaker passed it into Rowe's feet and with a trademark shimmy he created the space to lash it low and hard into the bottom right hand corner.  1-0.  Great power from out of his feet.  A minute later he almost snatched a second but his long-range effort was well parried by the Preston keeper.

On the hour mark Chris Cairns was replaced by Poulton's Carl Eastwood.  A good effort by Cairns as the Preston defenders struggled once again struggled to cope with his excellent hold up play and distribution.  On 65 minutes the Crescent's Michael Braebaum replaced skipper Robbie Boal in the centre of the park.  Anthony Warwick had a few runs on the left but early doors ran into a brick walls.  Things changed on 70 minutes when he played a one two with Eastwood.  Warwick's pace, strength and composure took him to the ball first and he rifled it past the Preston keeper into the bottom corner from eighteen yards.  2-0.  Great finish.

On 72 minutes Eastwood was adjudged to have been fouled on the edge of the box.  Danny Rowe of course took it, the keeper could only warm his hands on it and there was Paul Carroll to pick up the scraps and knock it home for a third.  3-0.  On 75 minutes Paul Carroll was replaced by Martin Baird.

On 77 minutes Danny Rowe was left unmarked on the right, a great crossfield ball eas met by the confident Warwick with a first time effort off the edge of his boot that bounced back off the bar.   Preston finished strongly and despite a couple of good moves and shooting opportunities they couldn't grab a consolation.

Final score – The BFSFA 3 – 0 Preston Sunday League

In summary, a workmanlike performance from the BFSFA squad who worked hard off the ball all over the pitch.  0-0 was a fair scoreline at half time.  Danny Rowe was the difference in the second half and deservedly took the Man of The Match award for his goal, his assist and his all round contribution throughout the 90 minutes.  Preston were decent going forward but lacked the necessary punch in front of goal.  A clean sheet was the reward for the defenders who reduced Preston to shots from outside the box.

A decent sized crowd for such a foul night and the majority were rewarded with a BFSFA win.  Skipper Robbie Boal lifted the Carberry Cup for the home side.

Bispham Juniors FC fold from Division 1.

Bispham Juniors FC fold from Division 1.Official notification has been received from the BFSFA that Division 1 side Bispham Juniors FC have folded from the league.  Here is their obituary.  The table has been affected greatly.  The table on the sister site has been updated and I expect that the tables on Fyldesport will be updated Sunday PM.

PS – Division 1 side Waterloo Hotel FC have changed their name to FC Loco.

In the 2001/02 season Bispham Juniors Football Federation FC joined a BFSFA of eight Divisions in Division 4B.  They were perhaps the forerunners of succesful junior teams staying together and instead of going their separate ways and having a break they came straight into adult football.  A good decision for Bispham Juniors as they finished unbeaten champions in that first season after winning twenty and drawing two of their twenty-two games.  They also notched up one hundred and thirty-two goals with Mark Cottam and David Dean scoring 55 between them.

Their performance was so impressive that the league promoted them straight up to Division 2B for the 2002/03 season but it didn't stop them as they again finished champions four points ahead of Castle Gardens.  They only lost three all season.  In 2003/04 things got a little more difficult in Division 1 but they still managed to finish in a respectable third place level on points behind second placed Poulton but a good way behind champions St Annes Ex Service.

Promoted to the Premier Division for the 2004/05 season the young side impressed when winning six and drawing three of their twenty-two matches which led to a seventh placed finish.  The following season (2005/06) they won eight and drew six and this time finished in eighth.

In 2006/07 things started to go badly in the top Division where few sides have managed to retain much staying power over the last twelve seasons.  In a campaign to forget a number of the top players decided to leave.  It was of little surprise when the team finished bottom on only twelve points and were therefore relegated to Division 1.

Bispham Juniors FC fold from Division 1.

At that time the team that joined Division 4B in 2001/02 had all but folded but their place in Division 1 in the 2007/08 season was taken over by another of the BJFF junior sides.  In retrospect this proved to be a mistake as they should have started afresh in Division 3B.  The young side struggled badly losing their opening thirteen league games.  Their first point came in a 2-2 draw against the Shovels in December and they didn't manage to win a game until April 6th when they hammered the Philharmonic 6-0, a result that saw the end of the Philharmonic.  Bispham went on to finish bottom of Division 1 picking up only seven points along the way.  However, they did pick up greatly towards the end of the season which resulted in a great run in the Division 1 Cup where they were extremely unlucky to lose to Christ the King in extra time.

Bispham Juniors FC fold from Division 1.

At the beginning of this season (2008/09) hopes were high for Bispham Juniors following their strong finish to 2007/08 but sadly they were once again severely disadvantaged by player defections.  Once again a new crop of youngsters had to come into the squad and once again the quality of Division 1 took its toll as they lost their first nine league games of the season whilst crashing out 11-2 to Division 2A side AFC Additions in the Gledhill Cup.

That disastrous opening run to the season has ultimately resulted in the club folding.  As you've read, a brief history of highs and lows.  The thing to remember is that the players of the last two seasons were not bad players, they were just in the wrong Division.  My advice would be to re-group the youngsters and start afresh in Division 3B next season.  Whatever happens I hope that the players and management haven't been too put off by recent experiences and quickly find alternative employment in Fylde Coast Sunday football.

First up and whilst the sun was still shining we had Paris Casino FC hosting fellow Division 2B side AFC Marton.  The sides had already met twice in the league with both matches finishing in 3-3 draws.  Paris Casino FC played well early doors and had much the better of the play.  They took a 2-0 lead but their opponents never gave up and pulled one back.  As the final whistle approached it was Marton looking the more like scoring but in the end the Casino hung on for a 2-1 win.

The council have still not got around to sorting out the only boggy couple of square feet on Boundary Park.  Commonsense prevailed and all corners were taken from the other side.  Shame as it would have made for some good pictures.

Next up was the Division 1 league encounter between bottom club Bispham Juniors and FC Kingsfield.  In the first half Kingsfield displayed some good form creating a hatful of chances but all too often couldn't make them count.  Bispham improved in the second half but in the end Kingsfield ran out deserved 3-0 winners.  Kingsfield manager Roy Atkinson was generally pleased, so much so that he only had two slanging matches with son Darren.  More worries however for BJ supremo Gez Curry.  The move to watch this game co-incided with it clouding over and with the son so low in the sky at this time if the year it's almost dark photo wise so apologies for the quality.

On pitch 1 it was back to the Division 2 Cup.  Division 2B Strugglers Skye FC (Luminous kit) faced an uphill struggle away at 2A title hopefuls FC Eden.  In the first half the underdogs played really well as they made Eden work for any advantage.  However, in the second half class eventually told as Eden ran out 6-0 winners.

Another goal for Eden but the Skye keeper was unfortunate on this one as a tame looking long range effort hit a horrendous divot (and I don't mean his defender) and bounced over him.  You have to laugh.

Lastly we had another Division 2 Cup tie on Pitch 2.  Last season's Division 3 Cup winners Progress Sports & Social of 2B were at home to the Squirrel of 2A.  The game finished at 2-2 after extra-time but if the Progress don't go through in this weekend's replay they'll be kicking themselves as they were 2-0 up and coasting following a long range effort that deceived Andrew Wright in the Squirrel goal.  However, the Squirrel seem to have a bit of backbone this season and with time running out made a big effort to pull it back to 2-2.  No more goals in extra time so they'll try again Sunday  on the same pitch.
