Sportspy 2011 /12

| Well, that's that then. Another season of Sunday football is over. With the Euro's on the horizon it won't be too long until August is upon us. Read on for the 2011/12 Roll of Honour as well as the Fyldesport best pictures of the year. Looking forward to seeing you all for the 2012/13 campaign. |

With the move from Saturday mornings to Sunday afternoon's I'm afraid that watching the boy play Junior Football (rather badly) had to take priority over Sunday Football. This meant that I couldn't put as much effort into creating the weekly 'Sportspy Reports' feature and that I couldn't get around all of the Sunday football venues as I usually do. However, I did manage to get out and about almost every week and tried my utmost to capture as many players, officials and supporters as I possibly could. I've put together a video this time. Hope you enjoy it and apologies if you didn't feature…there's always next season. Well done to the relative few that won something and to the rest, when it comes to Sunday Football, and despite the highs and lows, it truly is the taking part. Please play your part in keeping Sunday football alive on the Fylde Coast.
Look, it's getting serious now. We've gone all season without a major sponsor so we're paying for Fyldesport out of our own pockets – we can't run such a big site for free. If you can help us out by advertising, please do so or one day soon the switch will be turned off and it's all gone with no return. sportspy22@aol.com

Memories of the BFSFA Season 2011/12 and thanks to John McNicholas and Steve Knight for the additional Divisional Cup Final pictures. For optimum effect please click 'full screen' in the bottom right corner and ensure that you're alcohol or chemically enhanced.

![]() | Last night saw the playing of the 45th Gledhill Cup Final at what we all hope will be the Premier Division ground of Blackpool FC at Bloomfield Road. Regulars Poulton SFC were there once again and up against Parkside FC. Here are a few pictures and a brief match summary. |

Gledhill Cup Final
Poulton SFC 2 – 1 Parkside FC

Poulton were decent favourites and in the first 35 minutes they proved the bookmakers correct with an awesome performance that in effect won the game from them. A Danny Morris Penalty on 6 minutes and an Eastwood shot ten minutes later put them firmly in control and in all fairness they had two great chances to score more early doors but the golden opportunities were squandered.
Parkside finally got going around the 35 minute mark and Phil Smith was very unfortunate not to pull one back when his curling effort hit the angle of crossbar and post. The second half was a lot more evenly contested but the Poulton goal rarely looked threatened. Catlow danced around a couple of defenders only to see his shot well saved low down by Romeo. Parkside were handed a penalty late on that was well despatched by Brookes but it was to be no more than a consolation although it made for a couple of interesting minutes at the end. The Fyldesport Man of the match was Gary Pett of Poulton SFC. Covered every blade of grass from box to box for 90 minutes.
Well officiated by referee Hill and his team. Congratulations to Poulton SFC on their win and well done to Parkside who, on reflection will look back on a very good season.

![]() | You may note that a little further down the homepage there is an article advertising free room hire for club presentation nights at the Co-op Club on Preston New Road. It was sent in by ex BFSFA referee Martin Rogers (Pictured). Unfortunately, we've received the very sad news that Martin suddenly passed away over the weekend at the age of 43. Read on for more details. |

Sincere thanks to John McNicholas for sending in the following words;
Sad news reached those of us attending the Divisional Cup finals at Fleetwood Town yesterday that popular local Referee and Coach Martin Rogers had passed away suddenly at home on Friday. Regrettably, the news has since been confirmed. Our sympathy goes out to his fiance and family who have lost him at only 43 years of age. Martin was a trusted and popular referee. He was active in the local footballing community for many years, always sporting a fine sense of humour – a true football person.
Dennis Peters recalled fond memories of him suddenly appearing to ref in the old Combination as a youngster twenty odd years ago and after being so impressed he referred him on to Len Smith in the old Sunday Football arena. Martin continued for many years and only ceased with officiating on a Sunday morning a couple of seasons ago to concentrate on his coaching role with Blackpool And Fylde College alongside Parkside FC player Jimmy Hone. I refereed many times alongside Martin and along with Dave Connor and many others have also officiated both in the middle and on the line numerous times for Martin's College side. D.C. and I will miss his knowledge, wit and banter enormously. R.I.P. Martin Rogers – A lovely Guy ! ! !

![]() | Sincere apologies but I have been unable to attend the two Divisional Cup finals at Fleetwood today due to junior football commitments. In the Premier/Division 1 Cup final Poulton SFC beat Newton Arms FC 2-1. In the Division 2/3 Cup final, Blackpool Lane Ends FC came back from 1-0 down to beat Division 3 side FC Kingsfield 6-1. Congratulations to both. Don't forget that on Thursday night it's the Gledhill Cup final at Bloomfield Road between Poulton SFC and Parkside FC. (Kick off at 7pm) |

The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 29 April 2012
In the G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance only one of the cup finals survived the wet weather with the Bierkeller Division Two/Three tie between Blackpool Lane Ends and Kingsfield being postponed. In the Bierkeller Division Four Cup Lane Ends Res. lifted the trophy after defeating Excellent UK 2-1 with goals from Michael Booth and Craig Gillies and Jack Martin scoring for the runners up.
Premier Division champions Sanuk FC finished their season with a 4-1 win against Mythop Leisure with Michael Clark ending his fine season with a hat trick and Michael Braebaum`s goal sealing the victory. Poulton SFC only need to win one of their two remaining games to take runners up spot after beating Great Eccleston 4-0 with Adam Shorrocks (2) Darren Hall and Brett Dawson their marksmen. Newton Arms avenged their earlier defeat by Chris Allen Garages by winning 4-0 with Terence Fearns (2) Michael Clay and James Roberts on target.
Division One champions Blackpool Catholic Club surprisingly lost 5-2 to Wrea Green with Sam Weatherby (2) Adam Quigley Nathan Cook and Andrew Thornley on their score sheet. Tangerine Tavern trounced Highfield Social 12-0 with Tony Buxton scoring three and pairs from Barry Davenport Carl Dixon and Michael Long.
At the top of Division Three Mere Park lost out on goal difference to take second place after winning 4-2 against Teamsport 90 with Lee Ferguson Scott Grimes Paul Garforth and Joseph Howarth finding the net and Andy Pritchard and Kevin Moran replying.
Division Four title winners Thatched House beat Philharmonic 5-2 in their final match with Chris Matthews grabbing four and Ryan Skelly one and Damian Dinsmore and Richard Jebb scoring for the losers.

![]() | Courtesy of the BFSFA committee, here are all of the provisional results from today's programme of Sunday Football league and Cup Final action. The tables, fixtures and results have now been updated. If in doubt, please call Dennis on 391055. (Also includes pictures from the Division 4 Cup final at the ground of AFC Blackpool). |

Lane Ends Reserves FC win the Division 4 Cup after beating Excellent UK FC 2-1 in the wind and rain at AFC Blackpool. The Division 2 & 3 Cup final due to take place on the same pitch this afternoon was sensibly postponed. Thatched FC take the Division 4 title from runners up Blue Room FC by a point after they beat Philharmonic 5-2 this morning. It's been a long wait but Xceptional Kitchens FC have won the Division 3 title and Mere Park FC finish runners up. Poulton SFC won again today and three more points from their final two fixtures will give them runners up spot in the prem.
