Sportspy Reports - Sunday August 7th 2011

The first day of the new Sunday football season and with the wind and rain it was more like mid March than early August.  No way was the new camera going out in the open in those conditions so it was the shelter of the two covered stands at Blackpool Wren Rovers and Squires Gate.  Here's a small selection of pitcures from the two matches that were taking place.

Airshow day at Blackpool.  The Red Arrows were supposed to fly in, perform and fly off but 'Red 7' had a problem and landed for repairs.  A good picture from the runway boundary on Queensway.  Noisy,. you could smell the fuel and feel the draft around your ears.

At the ground of Blackpool Wren Rovers FC, BFSFA Champions Quilligans FC were playing Fleetwood Gym FC (Collins Park still not playable).  Quilligans FC romped away to a comfortable victory.

Over the fence and it was the Division 1 fixture between Blackpool Motor Works FC (Real Burlington FC) and Northern Care Colts FC.  This was one of the most feisty and entertaining fixtures in Division 2 last season.  No change there then as the two sides battled out a 4-4 draw with two goals in extra time.

The old Fyldesport camera finally gave up towards the end of last season with the winter weather finally taking its toll (they're just not built for the Edge In February).  The replacement arrived during the week.  The Sunday before the start of the new football season and it was time to put it to the the test.  There's been some good cricket at South Shore CC over the summer and it continued this afternoon with the Sunday 1st XI at home to Kirkham & Wesham CC.  Both sides were struggling down at the wrong end of the table.

Now it’s getting serious

Now it's getting serious

Two weeks on Sunday it's the 7th August, the first day of the new Sunday Football season.  Thirty-two of the sixty-six teams have still not apparently registered with the LFA.  No number, no play, three points deducted and a fine.  Is this you?  Check now with Dennis Peters on 391055 in order to avoid disappointment.

Mid summer gossip – 2011

Mid summer gossip - 2011

We're into July and with the sun shining on a glorious Sunday morning we've just phoned fixtures secretary Dennis Peters (Still alive and as equally cantankerous) for the latest Sunday football gossip – here it is.

Mid summer gossip - 2011

OK, here we go;

1 – Currently, there will be five Divisions (Prem – 13), (Div 1 – 14), (Div 2 – 14), Div 3 – 14) and Div 4 – 13).  This assumes that the three teams awaiting vetting will be accepted.  There is still time to get a new team in the league if you're all set and ready to go.

2 – The full structure will be released on July 28th and will appear on Fyldesport.com the same day.

3 – We regretfully say goodbye to the following clubs; FC Eden, Devonshire Arms, Blackpool Rangers, Fylde Coast Gates, Shovels, Layton Institute, Fleetwood Kings, Cuban Allstars and the Waterloo Pub.  Gardeners Arms and Highbury Vets have merged in the Prem.

4.  We welcome new clubs Thatched FC, Stanley Arms Wesham FC, Soul Suite FC (No connection to Mr Miles), FC Newton, Xcellent FC and Bathroom Solutions FC (Managed by Mr M Faber).  The three teams still awaiting vetting are Victoria Hospital FC, Best Electrical FC and the welcome return of Bispham Hotel FC.

5.  Champions Quilligans FC may be changing their name to Stanley Cons FC, Highfield Social Club FC may be moving away from Collins Park.

New season - same old problems (Grumpy speaks)

I have just received the latest list of registered teams from the LFA.  At this moment we have only 14 out of 70 teams registered. May I remind you that if you are not registered you will not be able to start the season on 7th August and each game you fail to play you will be fined and have points deducted. Two teams have tried to register but cannot because they have outstanding administration charges to the LFA which must be paid before they can register. Any team who have not received an application form or lost the one they were sent if you send me a stamp addressed envelope to D.P.J.M.Peters  25 Argosy Avenue Blackpool FY3 7NG and I will send you one back post haste – REMEMBER NO REGISTRATION NO PLAY.                    YOUR EVER LOVING GRUMPY
