Tiles FC have finished fourth then sixth in Division 3A in the previous two seasons playing as Autoweld FC so it's of little surprise that we see Tom Smith's team in third place as we head towards the end of November. Recent history has shown that the team perform much better in the first half of the season than in the second so it's hoped that they can keep things together this time and make a real push for promotion back to Division 2 where they last played as Pearson Estate Agents FC. The team have won six, drawn four and lost only two of their twelve league matches this season. One of those defeats came on the opening day against FC Gretone and the other came more recently when they suffered their worst defeat of the season in a 7-2 mauling by league leaders MA2 FC. In this season's Gledhill Cup they beat Pulcinellas Reserves 5-2 in Round 1 but lost 2-0 away at Division 1 side the Shovels in Round 2. Sponsored by Crescent pub manager Paul Stevens the team now have a good base to play from in St Annes Square. This morning's opponents were Foulds Metals FC who faced a long journey from Fleetwood on not the best of morning's. Foulds were second in the table at start of play five points ahead of Tiles and with two games in hand so it was for this reason that Tiles FC really needed a win to keep in touch with the top two. Foulds Metals FC are new to Division 3A this season. Last season they mainly played as the Ship, Fleetwood FC in Division 3B but they've also recruited players from elsewhere amd this season look decent bets for promotion as we head towards Christmas. They've won nine games and lost only once in the league all season and that means that they're only three points behind league leaders MA2 FC with a game in hand. It's days like today where promotion is won and lost. Their only league defeat came on the road against MA2 FC and with the leaders in such good form they can't afford too many slip ups if they're to take the title. Gledhill Cup interest ended in Round 1 with a 3-0 defeat to Layton Institute Juniors. Rob Hughes is the man in charge and it was hoped that he'd managed to get his best team to travel this morning. I was last at this venue a fortnight ago watching the Waterloo v Layton in the Lancashire Sunday Trophy and the weather that day was horrendous and if the forecast was anything to go by were in for even worse conditions with gale force icy winds and rain predicted. It was good to see some ground improvements at this venue with new goals and re-alligned pitches although the blue lines made it a little confusing. The man in charge today was Mr Benjamin Wiseman and at 11:10am with the weather forecast becoming ever more accurate Tiles FC kicked in their rusty coloured kit attacking the sea end.
Tiles FC 2008/09 before the rain came down.
Foulds Metals FC 2008/09.
The respective skippers shake hands prior to kick off.
Tyrone Melling (Left)
As I said earlier it's on days like this when titles are won and lost. Unfortunately, Foulds could only muster ten players at kick off time and straight from the off they came under a lot of Tiles pressure.
Tiles FC take the lead.
On four minutes the home side took the lead. A surging run from young James Butler took him past a couple of healf hearted Foulds challenges and in the above picture he (12) bent high and wide past the outstretched arm of the Fould's keeper. Great finish. 1-0.
The Fould's captain goes down under a challenge.
He's in some pain.
He has to go off. Manager Rob Hughes is left holding his boot. The team are temporarily down to nine men before a late arrival restores them to ten.
On seven minutes Tiles made it 2-0 as the prolific Tyrone Melling got on the end of a through ball and slid it past the onrushing keeper. A minute later a similar throughball found Ryan Postlethwaite onside. His shot rebounded back off the post and the grateful Tyrone Melling smashed it in. 3-0.
Melling celebrates with Butler.
On 12 minutes it was 4-0. Following more good pressure an incisive pass into the Fould's box found Melling who took it around the keeper and hit it home into the wind from the angle for a 'five minute' hat-trick. Three minutes later and it was four in eight minutes as he fired in another from 18 yards. 5-0 and Foulds were in disarray. The camera once agin had to be protected from the rain.
“Give us a chance lads”
On 25 minutes it was more misery for Foulds as the outstanding Butler tormented their defence once again, took the ball to the by-line and pit it on a plate for that man Melling who gratefuly notched his fifth. 6-0.
The rain starts to fall heavily as Lee Crook shows his quality for Foulds.
Credit where it's due there was no bickering from the Foulds players who generally stuck at it and continued to play decent passing football. Offensively, they looked good with Lee Crook catching the eye along with the hard working Dave Brookes who got some reward on 42 minutes with a thirty yard effort that flew into the top corner – brilliant goal. 1-6. Unfortunately, for Foulds the home side went straight down the other end and scored again. James Butler repeated his earlier spade work on the left and crossed it for Jamie King who did well to squeeze it in at the far post. 7-1.
The horizontal wind sock shows the strength of the wind.
Crook shows great spirit in battling for the ball once again.
'Commitment' – The Tiles liner (Chris 'Kid' Croall) begins to feel the cold. “Please don't put me on!”.
Half time score : Tiles FC 7 – 1 Foulds Metals FC.
At the half time break Foulds Metals FC jointly decided that there was little point in continuing. Down to ten men, 7-1 down and with the dreadful conditions worsening they met with the Tiles opposition and agreed to hand them the game. All of the players shook hands and that was that. Despite the weather and the scoreline the match was played in great spirit with no trouble for referee Wiseman. Hopefully, we'll have eleven a side and better conditions for the reverse fixture. A good display from Tiles in the first half with some good performances especially from Tyrone Melling, Ryan Postlethwaite, Wes Lawrenson and James Butler. One player who wasn't pleased to see the game end prematurely was Tiles' Tyrone Melling who fanicied increasing his first half tally of five goals. Hopefully, Tiles can challenge for the whole of the season and not do their post Christmas disappearing act. As for Foulds this was a day to forget. It's a long trip but when you're second in the table there's few excuses for only having ten players. I was impressed with their spirit and hopefully this will see them through to promotion. Even at 7-1 down you could still see the quality if that makes sense. Lee Crook epitomised what's required by all the rest of them if they're to get anywhere near to winning this league. The Teamsport90/Fyldesport Man of the Match award went to James Butler who scored one and made about five out of the other six goals through some great left wing play. Looks like the BFSFA committee will have to rule on the outcome of this one although the three points and the 7-1 scoreline certainly look as though they'll be going the way of Tiles FC who stay in touch with the top two.
Tiles FC's James Butler wins the training ball and the 'Sporty' for his top performance. Only 18 and yesterday he played his first game for Garstang FC in the West Lancs – Certainly one to watch.
Fylde Coast Gates player Wayne Binks injured last week is back on his feet again supporting the cause in his team's game against the Waterloo. Two nights in the Vic resulted from his broken toes. His poor wickle foot was getting cold under the plastic covering – ahhhh.
Listen, last season there was this unfortunate spell of players turning up in scarves for games nattily tied in the style of the day. Now we're seeing these stupid 'N Dubs' hats (I'm still down with the kids) and it's got to stop now. Best be frank – you look stupid in them so pack it in now or the embarrasing pictures will be back to haunt you in years to come. If you're going to wear 'bobbles' at least have it on the top of your hat and not hanging down the sides.
Skye FC joint manager Steve Waller has to keep clearing his specs. No sign of that tough Scotsman Ali Martin though.
Skye FC in the red 3-2 down against FC Talbot.
Off to Commonedge for a bacon butty and a hot cup of tea. The Quills v Crescent match had been abandoned with Quills drawing 1-1 but five other games were still underway.
The Saddle Inn FC (Green) were on their way to victory against the Farmers Arms.
The Shovels FC (Stripes) were 2-1 up against Northern Care Reserves but hanging on a bit in the closing stages.
Click it back in place and let's get on with it.
Matt Livingstone not the type of person to be put off by a little light drizzle.
FC Gretone (Blue) gutted at the final whistle after falling to a last minute FC Newton winner.
The Saddle v Farmers game ends just before the sun came back out . Well done to all the lads who survived this morning's conditions.

Inkmasters FC resign from the BFSFA.
In 2004/05 and playing as Clifton Co-op FC the club reached the final of the Division 3 Cup where they lost 3-0 to Christ the King FC. Fourth place that season was also good enough to achieve promotion. The following season in 2A they went on to finish fourth but since then they've slid down the table and this season they started with nine straight league defeats which has led to their demise. The sister site table has been amended and the fyldesport table should follow suit soon. Losing clubs like this is very bad news for local Sunday football as we try and keep up the good numbers we have in our top quality league. With this in mind the committee has asked that we inform all Fyldesport.com viewers that they will take a very dim view of anybody who tries to destabalise clubs. Recent examples are anonymous posts in the Shoutbox claiming that teams such as the Crescent and Hydronics are folding when this is not the case. If the posters' clubs are identified then action will be taken against them. I hope the committed Inkmasters FC players quickly find alternative employment within local Sunday football.

Committee reminder on the resignation process.
1) Any club with problems must contact the League Secretary Peter Collins in the first instance. Many issues can be resolved without us having to lose a club from the league.
2) If issues cannot be resolved a club must submit a resignation request in writing to the League Secretary Peter Collins. 3) This resignation must then be accepted at a Management Committee meeting, these are held once a month. During discussion of the resignation request, a decision will be made by the Committee as to when the registered players of the resigning club may be allowed to re-register with another club in the league. This is wholly dependent on the circumstances around and the reasons for the resignation request. 4) Following an acceptance of the resignation by the Committee the Treasurer and the Discipline Secretary must ascertain that the club has honoured all its fiscal duties to the league and if not ask the League Secretary to notify the club of any outstanding dues. If monies are owed the League Secretary will inform the club that they have 3 weeks to pay. Failure to pay within 3 weeks will result in the monies being split between the registered players based on how many matches each has played. 5) A player will be allowed to re-register for another club when any time period allotted by the Committee has run its course and that player's financial obligations to the League have been met. Anyone playing before this is deemed to be unregistered. Car vandalism at the ‘Edge ?
Sportspy Reports – Sunday November 9th 2008.
Last season playing as the Saddle FC the Waterloo Hotel FC finished third in Division 2B behind Champions Pulcinellas and runners up Fleetwood Car Centre. After leading the Division for so long they were extremely disappointed to miss out on an evening out at the BFSFA presentation evening at the Layton Institute but after having only taken seven points from the last twenty-one available they had nobody but themselves to blame. On a positive note that third place finish was good enough to achieve promotion to Division 1. After their poor finish to the season I had concerns about how they woul fare in the highly competitive Division 1 but thus far those concerns have gone unfounded. Heading towards mid November the team are well placed in fourth only four points behind leaders Fylde Coast Gates having only lost once all season. In the Gledhill they met rivals Pulcinellas in Round 2 and were well beaten 5-2. A win this morning against Premier Division opposition would provide manager Scott Elliott with a place in the last sixteen of this great competition. Today's opponents were Layton Institute FC who you don't see playing at this venue too often. After a relatively short absence the team were promoted back into the top flight after finishing top of Division 1 in the 2005/06 season. After finishing seventh in 2006/07 they went on to finish runners up behind Quilligans last season and although there was a seventeen point gap the achievement of finishing ahead of the likes of Poulton and Northern Care should not be underestimated. The club have had a slow start this season but it's still early days having only completed four league fixtures but only four points from the first twelve means that they're currently down in ninth place. The club have reached the last eight of the Gledhill Cup after beating Fleetwood Cricket Club, the Shovels (After a replay) and FC Gretone. The quarter-final draw is still to take place. Manager Stuart Todd appreciates the importance of this competition and well knows that a place in the last sixteen is well worth fighting for. Good conditions on the ground this morning but the strong southerly wind was bound to play its part as it does at this venue all too often. Today's man in the middle was Mr Martin Rogers and at 11:10 am the game was finally underway with the Waterloo in the red and white defending the changing room end.

The Waterloo kick off.
Unusually the Waterloo were something of a shambles this morning with only ten players, no corner flags and no match ball as a number of their squad sadly preferred staying up until the early hours getting drunk watching some Welshman belt some American rather than playing in the 4th Round of the Lancashire Sunday Trophy but at kick off they had managed to scrape a bare eleven together. Surprisingly, they almost took the lead in the first minute. In the above picture Lee O'Neil was sent clear but Layton keeper Greg Bird was awake as he rushed out of his box and somehow blocked it with his thigh.

After a rather turgid thirty minutes of little if no incident Layton started to creat a few chances. A nice passing compination between Meehan, Catlow and Holloway sent the latter clear in the box but he slid his shot wide. A minute later a cross from the right floated over Goldberg but in the picture below the Layton header went over the bar.
On 39 a cross-field ball from Catlow found the ample chest of Meehan but he rushed his lob and the ball went well over the bar.

On 43 minutes the deadlock was finally broken and it came via a piece of magic from Layton's Mark Meehan. Reminiscent of the recent Bentley goal for Spurs against arsenal he picked the ball up thirty five yards out, turned and curled a dipping effort into the breeze and toward goal. Goldberg was going backwards and could only get a paw to it as the ball went just under the bar, off the post and across the line. Goldberg claimed to have kept it out but in the picture below the ball looks to be hitting the back of the net. GOAL. 0-1.
Meehan's quality effort cannot be kept out by Goldberg.
In first half injury time the Waterloo almost equalised. Chappell won the header as shown above but Chris Smith just couldn't connect with the dropping ball.
Half time score: Waterloo Hotel FC 0 – 1 Layton Institute FC.
Layton manager Stuart Todd (Right) inspires the troops with half time pep talk.
Layton start the second half.
The first sixty seconds of the second period were almost a re-run of the first but this time it was a Layton player who raced clear. Once again Goldberg bravely rushed his opponent and once again he came off second best in the clash but it was enough to see the ball go away to safety.
A two minute stoppage for the magic spray etc.

Approaching the hour mark the weather took a dramatic turn for the worse. The skies blackened, the wind whipped up to a gale and the heavens opened. It was too much for the camera that was in danger of being swamped so it had to be put away – apologies to all. On 63 minutes we had some great action. Following a Waterloo break the ball fell to O'Neil but his sweetly struck half volley was hit too central and went straight to Bird. He decided on the long kick straight upfield. Initially Chappell misjudged it allowing Meehan clean through in the box. His lob looked to be goal bound but amazingly Chappell made up the ground and an athletic overhead kick cleared the ball away. He'll do himself a mischief with anymore clearances like that. It brought applause from Meehan who looked certain to score. On 86 Meehan finally made it safe for Layton. Another long ball outwide was missed badly be the Waterloo defender. Stuart Holloway was in around the back, looked up and squared it for Meehan who made no mistake from two yards. 0-2 and game over.
The whistle goes and the players shake hands in the gloom.
Final score : Waterloo Hotel FC 0 – 2 Layton Institute FC.
So Layton make it through to the last sixteen where as we know it's going to be very tough to progress any further. If they do they'll have to finish better than they did this morning where in the second half a whole host of chances went begging. Stuart Todd has a number of combinations to consider. Catlow played well and works hard always busy in what appears to be a completely free role between the back four and the front two. He'll probably be even more effective with the 'spoiler' Crossy to win the tackles – he was absent this morning. Jebb and McNicholas did well and Meehan was once again largely dominant in the air and came up with a couple of good goals. Waterloo will have to realise that in order to get past Prem teams in the last 32 of the Sunday Trophy you've got to be well organised and get your best team out there warming up by 10:40 and not scratching around for players and equipment at 11am. Credit to the committed players that did show. O'Neil and Woolhouse were very lively throughout and all through the second half at 1-0 down they often looked like sneaking one on the break. A good performance also from Joel Chappell but Layton's Lee Catlow was the pick of the bunch this morning. Good luck to the 'Tute' in the last sixteen. Well done to both teams for a decent game of football in terrible second half conditions. Roll on winter (December, January and February). Well refereed by Martin Rogers and he kept the shades on.

League bad boys still slow with the paperwork.
Charity Football match on Friday night.
Sportspy Reports – Sunday November 2nd 2008.
This morning's opponents were Ward Heating FC. Last season's Division 2A Champions have adapted to life in the first Division quite well. This morning they were in fourth only two points behind the leaders having won four and drawn one of their opening seven games. They too received a first round bye and since then they've knocked out two Division 3B sides in the shape of Bar 19 FC and FC Matrix. Last season they only reached Round 2 and this was typical of manager Mick Hutchinson's shocking record in this competition over the last five seasons. Thornton Sports Centre was today's venue and after a relatively dry week the pitch was still a little heavy in the corners but nothing to trouble referee Dave Holloway. Cold but dry with clearing skies. Hydronics kicked off towards the bowling green in the black and white halved kit.

We're underway.
Marvin Kane.
It was a bright opening from both sides but with few clear cut chances. It wasn't until the 17th minute when Graham Hutchinson forced a decent save from Hydronics' keeper Littlewood that I had to get the pen and paper out. Moments later a Paul Bailey drive had stand-in Ward Heating keeper Dave Snowden scrambling across his six yard box.

Mr Holloway has to have a quiet word with Messrs Bailey and Gill.
Just wide.
Craig Littlewood does well to athletically tip a Ward Heating effort over the bar.
Reluctant Ward Heating FC substitute Kevin Duncalf.
On the half hour mark Ward Heating conceded a silly free kick just outside their own box. Before the kick could be taken a Hydronics player who was attempting to cause a nusiance in the wall went down clutching his stomach. Was it a punch?
Hydronics' manager John Egan certainly thought so.
Mr Holloway who didn't get an overly clear view leniently decided on a yellow card.
Back to the action and dead ball specialist Paul Bailey (Right) sends the ball on its way.
It's over the wall.
Over the keeper.
………and into the net.
Hydronics FC are ahead.
For the next ten minutes Hydronics bossed the game playing some great football on the floor from back to front. Ward were giving the ball away and at times were failing to even string three passes together. As the match headed towards the interval there was to be a penalty for each side.
On 40 minutes Ward keeper Snowden went walkabout – poor decision as he ended up tripping the Hydronics's forward. Although it was a clear pen referee Holloway kept his cards in his pockets.
The usually dependable Paul Bailey sends Snowden the wrong way but his fierce shot smashed off the top of the bar and away to safety.
Ward keeper Dave Snowden.
There was still time for another penalty but this time it was at the other end. Ward striker Bradley Gill was brought down by Chris Matthews. There was some argument as to whether or not it was inside or outside the box. Referee Holloway had no doubt – penalty.
Marvin Kane's poorly struck penalty was saved by Littlewood. An entertaining last five minutes in the first half.
Half time score : Hydronics FC 1 – 0 Ward Heating FC.
Strong words, short tempers and flying water bottles as the Ward Heating half time team talk clears the air after a poor half.
Ward Heating FC manager Mick Hutchinson – it's far calmer at work.
Ward Heating almost scored direct from the re-start. A long ball bounced off Gill and fell for Graham Hutchinson who twisted and shot in one movement but the ball went wide.
On 51 minutes Ward's increased confidence led to the equaliser. A cross into the box wasn't held by Littlewood as he and a Ward player collided at the far post. Littewood fell to the floor but the ball fell kindly for Nigel Marlow who struck the loose ball home as shown in the above picture. 1-1.
The defender couldn't keep it out.
Ward were now up for it and on the right wing Martin Marlow was beginning to get the better of Aaron Mathews in the boggy corner. On 57 minutes Marlow reached the byline, crossed and at the far post there was Neil Hankinson to tap it in. 1-2.
“What's going on?”
Another Bailey free kick forces Snowden into another important save.
The fishing net is a vital piece of equipment at the Sports Centre if you wish to retrieve the ball out of the ten foot dyke.
Hydronics were pushing for an equaliser. Snowden failed to hold on to this one but the home side failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
Hoofed clear.
Kevin Duncalf (Left) and Aaron Matthews.
Paul Bailey.
On 84 minutes and with Hydronics pushing forward the killer goal came for Ward as defensive gaps were exposed at the back. A through ball found Duncalf who took the ball on at pace, turned inside a defender and smashed it home from 25 yards. A fine and fearless finish. 1-3.
Littlewood is beaten for the third.
Gill and Duncalf celebrate the all important third goal.
A great late save from Littlewood keeps out a Ward fourth.
The final whistle goes and the respective managers shake hands.
Final score : Hydronics FC 1 – 3 Ward Heating FC.
An exciting Cup tie that was certainly a game of two halves. In the opening period the Premier Division side showed their class as they out-passed and outplayed their Division 1 opponents. A 2-0 half time lead wouldn't have been unfair. However, it was a completely different story in the second half as a much improved Ward Heating completely turned the tables with three good goals. On reflection the Paul Bailey missed penalty was the turning point although the reason for Hydronics dramatic downtturn in their second half form was something of a mystery. Good performances from Bailey and Ben Hutley for Hydronics whilst Nigel Marlow, Marvin Kane and the Gill brothers caught the eye for Ward Heating. Good luck to them in the last eight. Well reffed by Mr Holloway.
This week's winner of the 'Teamsport90' Man of the match winning a training ball and the trophy was Ward Heating FC's Bradley Gill. Great workrate in the first half whilst his team was struggling chasing every ball helped keep his side in the match.
