The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 18 December 2011

Twelve games in the G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance survived the wet weather. The shock of the day was Newton Arms dumping holders Sanuk FC out of the Gledhill Trophy with the losers missing out on the Bloomfield Road final for the first time in the last seven years. Goals from Terence Fearns and Graeme Hutchinson secured the 2-1 victory with Will Watt replying for Sanuk.

In the only game in Division One Wrea Green defeated C & G Elecrical 4-1 with Chris Radcliffe netting twice.

There were surprises in Division Two with the top two teams both losing. Leaders Blackpool Lane Ends went down 1-0 to 21st Century Windows who are now second thanks to Thomas Hatton`s strike. Boars Head were beaten 3-1 by CTK with Andrew Cairns Stephen Farquhar and an own goal on their score sheet. Mark Signett bagged all Stable Bar`s goals in the 3-0 win over Hansom Cab. Clifton Arms had a 3-1 victory against struggling Squirrel with Andrew Barrow Matty Grime and Karl Hyde netting.

Xceptional Kitchens are clear leaders of Division Three after their 4-0 win over bottom side Blue Spot Knee Clinic with Matthew Carlisle (2) Benjamin Newman and Jim Shaw on target. A Nick Beddow`s double clinched a 4-2 victory for St Annes against Old England whose goals were scored by James Fullalove. Mere Park enjoyed a 3-0 half time lead over Marton Athletic with Paul Garforth opening the scoring direct from a corner and other goals from Scott Grimes and Joe Howarth. Marton Athletic rallied in the second period with Richard Eaves netting twice and were unlucky not to earn a share of the points.

In Division Four second placed Thatched House trounced Philharmoic 10-0 with Gareth Nuttall`s five goals topping their scorers. Bottom side Victoria Hospital came back from 3-1 down against Berrys Beds to earn their first point of the season in the 3-3 scoreline. A Karl Fletcher pair and a Mark McCabe strike secured Lane Ends Res. a 3-0 success over DS Rovers.

Newton Arms FC end Sanuk FC's (Quilligans FC) seven year 'final appearance' run in the Gledhill Cup.  It was December 2003 when I watched Quilligans FC last lose a Gledhill Cup tie prior to a final when they lost up at Broadwaters against eventual winners Old Vic FC.  This morning they were deservedly beaten 2-1 by Kirkham prison side Newton Arms FC in this season's quarter final. Since then Quilligans FC went on to appear in seven straight finals winning six of them.  Well done to Mick Hutchinson and his Newton team.  In Division 1, Wrea Green FC moved into fifth after a 4-1 victory against C&G Electrical FC.  In Division 2, the league's two top sides were both beaten.  21st Century Windows FC went second after beating leaders Blackpool Lane Ends FC 1-0 and the Boars Head FC lost 3-1 at home to improving CTK FC.  Stable Bar go fourth after beating Hansom Cab FC 3-0.  Xceptional Kitchens FC opened up an eleven point gap on their nearest rivals after they beat Bluespot Knee Clinic FC 4-0.  Mere Park FC are going well after recording a win against Marton Athletic FC, 3-2 away from home.  Well done to Victoria Hospital FC who picked up their first ever BFSFA point at the 15th attempt after coming back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3.  Thatched FC went second after thumping Philharmonic FC 10-0 away from home.

Gardeners Arms FC Divisional Cup hopes go down the pan as they were knocked out by Bathroom Solutions FC 2-1.  It must have been a little boggy out in Wrea Green but the home side progressed after a 4-0 win against Village Steel FC.  FC Kingsfield reached the second round of the Division 2/3 Cup after beating AFC Wilo 7-1.  In the Division 4 Cup there were wins for Lane Ends Reserves FC and DH Gas FC.  Blackpool Catholic Club FC and Tower Lounge FC both kept pace with the leaders in Division 1 after both won comprehensively.  Good wins for both leaders Blackpool Lane Ends FC and Burn Naze FC as they stay first and third in Division 2.  In the big game of the day in Division 3, leaders Xceptional Kitchens FC beat second placed No 4 Celtic FC 3-1 to open up a healthy eight point lead.

It was extreme Sunday football out on Commonedge Road this morning as a combination of ice cold driving rain and a gusty wind made things very uncomfortable for players, officials and spectators.  However, there's no better cure for a hangover.  In the Bierkeller Division 4 Cup, bottom club Victoria Hospital FC were under new management after Danny Rossi answered the call to come in and try and turn things around. In the above video, the Hospital lads equalise from a well taken wind assisted free kick into the bottom corner.  Despite a 3-1 defeat this was certainly an improved performance.
