Sportspy Reports – Sunday February 28th 2010

At start of play home side Teamsport 90 FC (Red) were twelve points behind opponents Real Burlington FC but with three games in hand.  If they were serious about challenging for the title Teamsport really needed a win today.  Careless defending in the first half saw them 2-0 down at the break.  A third for the visitors midway through the second period sealed the points.  Teamsport kept battling and pulled a goal back but at the end of the day Real deserved the three points.  It still looks as though the Burlies are nailed on Champs and Teamsport are in a good battle for second place with about six other sides.

A great chance for Burlies as a quality effort hit the inside of the post, rolled along the line, hit the other post and rolled back along the line but as the camera shows, keeper PeeWee Pritchard grabs it on the right side of the line.

A late free kick for Teamsport 90 followed by a corner and then the whistle went.

Last Sunday Lane Ends FC (Yellow) held leaders Real Burlington to a 2-2 draw and that point took them off the bottom of the 3A table.  This week they were away at fifth placed Falcon FC.  Lane Ends were 1-0 down at the break and in the end the Falcon ran out 4-0 winners and moved ahead of Ansdell in the table into 4th position.  A scrappy game this one with referee Mr Bascombe being kept very busy throughout.

On Pitch 4 we had a relegation clash between home side Mere Park FC and fellow strugglers Old England FC (Orange).  Before the game they'd played 31 league games this season between them and won only five.  This morning Mere Park FC went on to win only their second league game of the season thanks to a 4-1 win.

“Blue Moon”………..once every blue moon Frank Kennedy's beloved Man City FC and the Mere Park FC both win on the same weekend.  It may be a while before we repeat that statistic.
