Poulton beat Spindles to set up a Gledhill semi final against Quilligans.  Goalless stalemate in the Prem's top game of the day as the Gardeners and the Devvy draw 0-0.  AFC Additions go top of Division 1 as the Vets are beaten again.  Fleetwood Gym keep the pressure on with another good win.  A good day for Wrea Green in Division 2 as the three sides alongside them at the top all fail to win.  Grand result for Grand Designs away at Northern Care Colts.  Boars Head FC open up a four point gap at the top of Division 3.  Stable Bar take all three points in the top of the table clash against Metrostars in Division 4 whilst the No 1 Club continue to wobble as they crash 6-1 at home to the Sun Inn.

The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 16 January 2011

In the G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance the Premier & Division One Cup was a triumph for the lower division teams who won all four ties. Shock of the day was AFC Additions 4-2 defeat of Lancashire Cup semi finalists Poulton SFC with goals from Scott Bradford (2) Simon Beavers and Stuart Pratt. A Liam Forrest hat trick helped Fleetwood Gym to a 6-3 win over FC Loco. Bloomfield Vets pulled back a 2-0 half time deficit to level against The Shovels but a Peter Clarkson treble and an Ashley Casey goal gave Shovels a 4-2 success. In the other all division one game The County eased through 5-0 against a disjointed West Coast Tackle.

Quilligans continued their unbeaten run in the Premier Division after a convincing 6-0 win over FC Eden with Michael Evans and Anthony Pearson both scoring twice. A Wayne Gardiner hat trick helped Devonshire Arms to a 6-1 victory over Newton Arms.

In Division 1 Highbury Vets thrashed bottom side Uncle Toms Cabin 10-3 with four goals from Michael Anderson and a Barry Perkes hat trick leading their scorers. Chris Hibbert and Chris Kitchen both scored three times for Mythop Leisure in the 9-1 victory over Highfield Social.

Leaders of Division 2 Real Burlington beat No. 4 Rangers 4-1 with a Jamie Nay double. Goals in each half from Sean McGuiness and Nigel Marlow gave Blackpool Catholic Club a 2-0 win against Layton Institute.

Blackpool Lane Ends kept up the pressure on the Division 3 leaders after beating Blue Room 5-0 with a Craig Worrall treble. Ashiana defeated No. 4 Celtic 9-3 with Andrew Scott netting three and pairs from Lee O`Donnell Liam Orr and Phillipson Peltier. Hansom Cab beat Wilo 8-2 with Philip Csesznyak netting three and Christopher Glynn two. Lane Ends overcame a 3-1 first half deficit to earn a 3-3 draw against Mere Park with a double from Nathan Sheliker and an Adam Wilson goal with Aaron Clarke Scott Grimes and Jacob Peake replying for Mere Park.

Division 4 leaders No. 1 Club won 4-1 against DH Gas with Danny Cowell bagging a hat trick. Metrostars went third after beating Cuban All Stars 5-2 with Stuart Wilson scoring three and Steve Feeney two. The Sunn Inn trounced Fylde Coast Vets.10-0 with four goals from Mark Yates and a Paul Gaskell treble topping their scorers. Blackpool Catholic Colts hammered CBFC Choice Furniture 8-1 with Jason Jewitt grabbing four goals.

Lytham Cricket Club was the venue this morning. There had been a lot of rain over the previous twenty-four hours but the Premier/Division 1 Cup tie between The County FC and West Coast Tackle Postal FC went ahead as planned thanks to the quality surface.  It was one of those days where it never quite got light resulting in poor quality pictures – apologies.

A single point separated these two sides in the Division 1 league table this morning.  Home side, The County were in the tenth whilst opponents West Coast were in eighth having played a game less.  The teams had met just once in the league back in early November when the match finished at 1-1.  The County last won a game on Halloween when they beat leaders Bloomfield Vets 3-0 at home.  Since then, they've had two draws and two defeats.  Gledhill Cup interest ended in Round 3 after they were beaten in extra time by Blackpool Catholic Club

West Coast Tackle Postal have played just twice since Halloween so I expect they were more than ready for a run out.  Following the 1-1 draw with the County they beat the Golden Eagle.  They didn't feature in this season's Gledhill Cup for some unknown reason with opponents Bloomfield Hotel being awarded a home walk-over in the second round.

The weather had been fairly grim all through Saturday and into Sunday morning with heavy rain and strong winds.  By kick off time, the skies were still full of rain but the winds were beginning to ease and most importantly, the temperature was nudging ten degrees.  The referee in charge of this one was veteran Tony Cunliffe and he had no hesitation in passing one of the best pitches in the Fylde fit to play.  County in the white and red kicked off at 11am

West Coast manager Daryl Prance had a squad of eighteen to choose from but the club rule is that if you turn up later than the designated time then you don't start.  These four reprebates were late and collectively hang their heads in shame as Prance gave them the hairdryer treatment.

The opening was relatively even but on eleven minutes West Coast keeper Sam did well to turn a shot from distance around his post.  A minute later and he wasn't so fortunate.  Ex Slovakian pro Daniel Grapko cut inside on the edge of the box and hot a low drive into the far corner.  1-0

A comfortable win in the end for the County FC who progress through to Round 2.  After scoring the opener they settled into a good rhythm and played some great passing football at time.  They were impressive in all areas of the pitch from start to finish.  West Coast may look at the missed penalty but in all honesty they can have no complaints at the end result.  They weren't out of it at the break but the early goal that was required to make a fight of it never materialised and when the fourth went in that was the end of the team's Cup interests for the 2010/11 season.  Good luck to the County in Round 2.

Both of today's teams last kicked a ball in anger back on November 21st which is almost seven weeks ago.  Home side Bloomfield Vets currently lead Division 1 four points ahead of second placed Spindles and six points ahead of this morning's opponents, Fleetwood Gym.  However, the three sides below the Vets all have three games in hand.  The two league games between the sides have already been played with the points being shared as each of them took maximum points in their respective home fixtures. On current form, the Gym were slight favourites having won all of their previous five matches.  The Vets ended a run of four games without a win by securing a victory last time out.

The Vets have a decent record in this competitition and have made the semi-finals before in recent years.  Opponents Gym also have players with experience of doing well in this competition including previous winners.  All set then for an intriguing Cup tie.  A raw day at the edge with the temperature hovering about four degrees with the bitter wind cutting into the very depths of your soul.  It feels even windier now they've knocked down Pontins but at least it was dry and sunny with clear blue skies.  Pitch 1 was the venue which is on the line as to being described as dangerous thanks to the 'rugger buggers' continuing to train on it.  Full of potholes etc.  The referee for this tie was Alan Young and bang on 11am the game was underway with the Gym in the yellow defending the cricket club end playing against the strong wind.

On 20 minutes the deadlock was broken.  With the advantage of the wind it was unsurprisingly the Vets that enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges but it was the Gym who opened the scoring.  Mike Jenkinson picked up the ball just outside his own box.  He took the ball on through midfield and looked to have over run it but a half hearted challenge by a Vets player allowed him to a win a ball that was never his.  Jenkinson took advantage, ran the ball to the edge of the box and hit a cross come shot that was deflected past his own keeper by a Vet's defender.  A good effort from Jenkinson.  0-1

On 25 minutes the Vets equalised.  A Vet's forward was adjudged to have been fouled just outside the area.  No surprises that Andy Gouck should take it and with the wind behind him he hit a sweet left footed strike into the top corner giving the keeper no hope. 1-1.

On 72 minutes, the Gym took the lead for the second time in the game.  A long throw from John Wilson found the head of the unmarked Danny Smith and he headed it into the net off the underside of the bar.  Poor defending.  1-2

Two minutes later and Parker was hauled down by the keeper after dinking it over his head – nailed on penalty.

A good effort from the Vet's keeper but Liam Forrest scored with a clinical spot kick into the bottom corner.  1-3

A minute later and John Beavers scored the best goal of the game.  He collected three yards outside the Vets box, put it onto his right foot and smashed an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner.  The keeper never moved.  1-4

At the other end the Vets had a golden opportunity to pull one back but Steve Hughes (8) elected to go for his right foot and horribly screwed the ball wide with an open goal before him.  FORE!

On 84 minutes, John Beavers scored his second and the Gym's fifth.  He was given far too much time to turn and fire a shot from the edge of the box which took a fortunate deflection off a divot and looped agonisingly over the keeeper.  1-5

Full time score : Bloomfield Vets 1 – 5 Fleetwood Gym FC

Sportspy Reports - Sunday January 9th 2011

The wind was always going to play its part in this fixture and with the teams turning around at 1-1 the Vets were always going to be up against it in the second half and so it proved.  Fleetwood Gym fully deserved the victory and they played some good stuff in the second half despite the conditions.  The Vets imploded in a five minute spell when the game went from 1-1 to 1-4.  Uncharacteristically, the Vets gave three poor goals away today due to shaky defending but to be fair, they created few chances of note at the other end.  I'm sure that these two sides will be in the mix for promotion places come late April.  The Gym have some quality players with bags of experience and they'll be a challenge for any side that draws them out of the hat in the semi-final.  Well officiated by Mr Young.

Mid season review - 2010/2011 Season

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time.  Despite the recent and prolonged cold snap the Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Football Alliance has all but reached the midway point.  No team is yet certain of picking up honours as we go into 2011 but who looks to be favourites for doing so?  We take a look at the state of play across all five Divisions and ponder how things will develop over the remaining months of the season.
