Mortgage Shop Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 5 September 2010

Gledhill Cup second round games dominated the Mortgage Shop Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance last weekend. Mythop Leisure from division 2 provided the only surprise result of the day by beating Premier strugglers Northern Care 4-1 with goals from Chris Hibbert Danny McKenzie Adam Scholes and Carl Windsor.

Premier teams enjoyed goal feasts against division 4 opponents with Blackpool Rangers inflicting the first defeat on leaders No.1 Club with Peter Floyd`s 7 goals leading their scorers in the 13-0 victory. FC Eden scored 11 against Clifton Arms with hat tricks from Ryan Bingham and Paul Roberts. Poulton SFC completed the goal bonanza by defeating CBFC Choice Furniture 9-0 with a treble from Lee Catlow.

A Ben Strawn hat trick gave Great Eccleston a 4-3 win in the all division 2 tie with AFC Additions. Shovels needed a last minute winner from Tony Oldham to overcome Layton Institute 3-2 with Peter Clarkson scoring their other goals. Blackpool Lane Ends fought hard against FC Loco before losing 2-1 with Joel Chappell and Ryan Grainger on target and Daniel Garth replying.

Fylde Coast Gates beat Northern Care Res. 4-2 with Zack McGuirk and Henry Wright both getting pairs. St. Annes held high flying Real Burlington 1-1 at half time before losing 8-1 with Jamie Nay grabbing a hat trick. Mere Park went 2 goals up in the first 15 minutes against Xceptional Kitchens through man of the match Jacob Peake but then went 3-2 down before winning 5-4 with other goals from Sean Bovington Scott Grimes and the late winner from Mark Langley.

In the all division 4 games Truncheon were holding The Sun Inn 3-2 but then collapsed to a 12-2 defeat with Paul Gaskell Michael Miah and Dean Walsh all scoring hat tricks and Stable Bar beat Fylde Coast Vets 7-2 with Chris Hastwell and Mark Sinnett netting twice.

Committee note - September 2010

All clubs are well aware of the procedures regarding the requesting of postponements.  The well run club will look at the upcoming fixtures, canvass players re unavailability and if applicable, request a postponement within the established time frame via the proper channels.  If you don't follow the established procedure then you have to turn up and play.  Even a mass outbreak of swine flu would have to be certificated and evidenced.  The league are now cracking down hard on 'no shows'.  They already have one team in their sights for not turning up for a game.  The team in question are likely to incur the following sanctions; a

Over the dyke to Pitch 7 where The Sun Inn FC (Orange) were at home to fellow Division 4 strugglers, Truncheon FC.  As I arrived Truncheon had just scored to make it 3-2.  The Truncheon are still adapting to Sunday football with a group of young players and to be honest they're currently terrible at defending.  They appear at times to have no midfield and for long periods it was a constant wave of pressure from the Sun.  The keeper kept them in it for a while but in the end they crashed to 12-2 defeat.  Keep going Truncheon.

In just a few week's time Blackpool FC travel to Anfield to play Liverpool FC in the Premier League but that's for the future.  Today was designated as 'Non League day' so what better way to spend Saturday afternoon than watching AFC Blackpool host AFC Liverpool at Jepson Way?  AFC Blackpool were looking to continue their great start to the season.

Sportspy Extra - Saturday September 4th 2010

Every Saturday is 'non league' day for us when Blackpool FC are either not playing or away on their travels.  Today, saw us make the short trip to watch AFC Blackpool host AFC Liverpool in the second Division of the Vodkat league.  It's fair to say that AFC Blackpool have struggled in the last three seasons as they've finished ninth, fifteenth and fifteenth.  P 100  W 27  D 25  L 48  The club has been rebuilding and is now on a sound footing with a great ground, training facilities and a thriving junior section.  Most importantly, the club have kept faith with manager Stuart Parker (Ex Blackpool FC and Bury FC) through the recent lean period.

That decision looks to be paying off as AFC have got off to a great start this season.  Going into September they're still unbeaten after taking ten points from the first four matches.  This morning they were top of the league whilst opponents AFC Liverpool were in twelfth six points behind AFC Blackpool but with a game in hand. After a few pitch problems over the summer the surface has much improved in recent weeks.  Bright and breezy on this early Autumn afternoon.  As it was an 'International weekend' there was a decent crowd in attendance.

AFC Blackpool started the game brilliantly.  They were playing some very attractive football and in all fairness should have had the game wrapped up after twenty minutes.  The home side dominated possession and the visitors were struggling to get the ball out of their own half.  Waddington and Cummins were causing the visiting defenders all kinds of problems.  A mixture of rushed finishing and pure bad luck meant that it wasn't until about the 25th minute when striker Ben Waddington rounded the opposition keepere and slotted it home to open the scoring.  1-0.

The visitors were creating little offensively but equalised shortly before the break with a speculative effort from distance.  A shot off the outside of the foot of AFC Liverpool's Steve Jones bent, swirled on the breeze and dipped over the head of keeper Speight.  1-1 at half time.  AFC Liverpool scored very early in the second half.  Aaron Stafford cut into the box and fired home past Speight from the angle. 1-2.  The more the half went on, the more AFC Liverpool began to take control of the game.  The started to boss the middle of the park and this resulted in the supply line to the AFC Blackpool forwards being stifled.  The home side all but failed to trouble the AFC Liverpool keeper in the second half and as time went on the match became more scrappy and disjointed as well as bad tempered.  In the end AFC Liverpool's dominant second half performance gave them all three points with a 2-1 win.

AFC Blackpool dropped to third but they're only a point behind leaders Irlam with a game in hand.  They travel to Daisy Hill FC next Saturday looking to retain top spot.  There were lots of positives to take from this game.  If the early possession and fast flowing passing football had resulted in two or three goals they probably would have run away with the game but that's football.  Best of luck to AFC Blackpool for the rest of the season.  Support your local non-league clubs – get out and watch them.

On pitch 2 Uncle Toms Cabin FC (Last season's Paris Casino FC) were looking to gain their first points of the season after suffering four straight defeats since the start of the season. Today's opponents were Christ the King FC who last season played as Progress Sports & Social FC.  Progress were woeful in the opening half an hour and Uncle Tom's took full adavantage with some spirited attacking play.  By the break they had raced into a 3-0 lead and only the efforts of keeper Brown stopped them from being dead and buried.  There was a big improvement in the second 45 as they pulled two goals back and in the closing moments they had chances to equalise but were wasteful in front of goal. Unce Tom's held on to win 3-2 and despite picking up those first points they stay bottom of Division 1 tonight whilst Christ the King FC are in ninth.

Into Division 2 and on Pitch 4 the Farmers Arms FC were at home to Travel Village FC. Neither side had enjoyed the best of starts to the campaign, especially Travel Village FC who had lost three out of the opening four.  This one was a close and entertaining game which in the end finished at 2-2.  Neither side were overly pleased with the point.  Travel Village FC were in the black and white.

Finally, across on Pitch 3, in-form Squirrel FC were at home to the Blackpool Catholic Club FC (Black and red).  The Squirrel had won three out of the opening five whilst the Catholics had only won one of their opening four games.  In thr first half, the Squirrel looked to be the better side and when they went 3-1 ahead following a controversial penalty midway through the second half they looked to have sealed the points but the Catholics never gave up and in the end they salvaged a point with a 3-3 draw.
