Pitch vandalism (Committee/Fyldesport comment)

Pitch vandalism (Committee/Fyldesport comment)

Lads, the football pitches of the Fylde are under a constant source of threat from housebuilders, horses, quad bikes, motorcycles, selfish dog owners, fat rugby players etc and complaints are made to the council on our behalf on a regular basis.  So when our own players and supporters drive their cars on to the sides of council pitches at Moor Park, Blackpool Rd St Annes etc and cause damage we look a bit silly.  There's no excuse.  Getting a front row seat in the warm is a bit girlie.  Time to man up and buy a woolly hat ec.  Last warning – in future, the council will take pictures and note the vehicle numbers of the guilty.  These will be passed on to the police and the council will try and recover the costs of any resultant remedial work through the courts.

The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 13 March 2011

In the Premier Division of the G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance, Poulton SFC lost ground on the leaders after being surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by bottom side Fylde Coast Gates with Carl Eastwood and Nick Pugh on target and Andrew Barker and Samuel Jacob Dyer replying for Gates.

Fleetwood Gym extended their lead at the top of Division 1 after beating Mythop Leisure 3-0 with a Sean Slater double and a Dean Richards goal. Spindles challenge is fading after they lost 4-2 to Shovels with a Stephen Gay pair leading their scorers and Scott Park getting both goals for the losers. West Coast Tackle ended Uncle Toms good run in the 5-3 defeat with Rick Seear netting three and John Emery and Rob Higgins also on target. Highbury Vets. enjoyed a 5-1 win against third placed Christ the King with Stuart Holloway and James Rawcliffe both scoring twice.

In the Division Two and Three Cup Teamsport 90 are the only lower side through to the semi finals after they knocked out Kingsfield 3-1 with a Richard Blampied double. Adam Casson`s two goals clinched Tower Lounge an extra time 6-2 victory over AFC Bloomfield.

At the top of Division 2 Northern Care Colts got back to winning ways in the 6-0 defeat of CTK with Ben Waddington grabbing four goals and Carl Faber two. Second placed No. 4 Rangers suffered another defeat after losing 3-2 to Dockers. Squirrel won a high scoring game 7-4 against Layton Institute. In a close game C&G Electrical defeated Blackpool Catholic Club 3-2 who came back twice from a two goal deficit with goals from Ryan Standaloft and Damian Clayson.

Division three leaders Blackpool Lane Ends struggled to beat St Annes with Daniel Garth scoring the only goal of the game. Mark Frankel`s double gave Marshall Court a 4-0 win against Blue Room. Number Four Celtic and Mere Park finished goalless.

Division four leaders No. 1 Club lost again going down 3-2 to Waterloo Hotspurs with Michael Tidmas netting twice for Hotspurs. With games in hand Stable Bar are challenging for the title after defeating Cuban All Stars 4-1 with Brett Nixon getting a hat trick. Blackpool Catholic Colts needed a penalty from Andrew Duckworth to secure a draw with Fylde Coast Vets. after a strike from Stuart McPhee gave Vets a half time lead. Daniel Worrall`s hat trick helped Xceptional Kitchens to an 8-0 victory against Waterloo Pub. Clifton Arms beat D H Gas 7-2 with a Tony Burke treble and an Ashley Casey pair topping their scorers. Philharmonic`s good run continued when a double from Damian Dinsmore earned them a 3-3 draw with The Sun Inn. Stuart Wilson`s two goals helped Metrostars to a 3-2 success over Lane Ends Res. whose goals both came from Alekzander Walker.

Sportspy Reports - Sunday March 13th 2011

One team's misery is anothers good fortune and when Premier Division side Northern Care FC unfortunately folded the Tower Lounge FC swooped to take their berth at the ground of AFC Blackpool.  Tower Lounge FC were officially classed as a new team for the 2010/11 season but as they had many players with lots of Sunday football experience the committee placed them in Division 2 and heading toward mid March this looks to have been a good decision.  The Tower were seventh in the table this morning and like all of the six sides currently ahead of them in the table they still have an excellent chance of taking the title.  Nine points might separate them from leaders Northern Care Colts but they have for games in hand so there's everything to play for.

Kenny Mew's team are in great form having won eight matches on the bounce in league and Cup.  In the Gledhill Cup they reached round 3 before being knocked out by Premier Division side Quilligans FC.  They've reached the last eight of the Divisional Cup following wins against Marshall Court Sandpiper and fellow ground sharers Northern Care Colts FC.

Their opponents in the Division 2 & 3 Cup this morning were AFC Bloomfield of Division 3.  Last season, and playing as Ashiana FC, they finished fifth in a tight Division 3B only three points off runners up spot.  Fifth spot was good enough for promotion under the league restructuring into Division 3.  James Gerrard's side have had a very good season and if they continue with their current good form they could still finish in third, the position they currently occupy.  Unfortunately for them, they find themselves in a Division with two very good teams, Blackpool Lane Ends and the Boars Head FC who are twelve points ahead of them.  The gap now looks to be too big to close as evidenced by last week's 9-1 beating by the Boars Head.  Their Gledhill Cup interest also ended in Round 3 where they were beaten by the now defunct Premier Division side Pulcinellas FC.  They reached the last eight of this competition after good wins against CTK FC and Fleetwood Kings FC, both of Division 2.

So, all things taken into consideration we looked to have an interesting Cup tie on offer although the Bloomfield were clearly the underdogs.  Heavy overnight rain had put this fixture in doubt but the AFC Blackpool pitch was ruled fit by referee Mark Hughes and the club.  At 11am, and with the sun breaking through on another cold late winter's morning we were underway with the Bloomfield in the yellow kicking towards the factories.

Who says Andy Scott can't jump.  You could get a Rizzla under there.  I couldn't hang about today and after another long delay for 'no football' I left with five minutes to go and the score at 2-2.  Predictably, the match went into extra time, the brave battlers of Bloomfield tired and the Tower went on to win 6-2

Sportspy Reports - Sunday March 13th 2011

Final score :  Tower Lounge FC 6 – 2 AFC Bloomfield (After extra time – 2-2 after 90 mins)

Sportspy Reports - Sunday March 13th 2011

Prior to kick off there wasn't too much confidence in the Bloomfield camp.  Key players had stayed away and they were down to the bare bones but once the match was underway and despite going behind early on they deserve great credit for stifling their higher league opponents. They bossed the first half and made the Tower look lethargic.  The half time scoreline of 2-1 to Bloomfield was a fair reflection of events.  They will rue the chances that went begging in the second period when they were 2-1 ahead but in the end tiredness and playing on the wide and long AFC Blackpool pitch took its toll.  The Tower equalised and when it went into extra time there was perhaps ever only going to be one winner.  Another good performance from Peltier who is always a nightmare for opposition defenders.

Job done then for the Tower.  It wasn't pretty but they're in the semi-finals where rivals Burlington and Wrea Green await (I'm unsure if the draw has been made.  Too many passes went astray today and for much of the game their opponents outbattled them all over the pitch.  In the end, their class took them through.  Good performance from Chris Preece.

Good luck to Tower Lounge FC in the next round (Please buy some more footballs!)

Sportspy Reports - Sunday March 6th 2011

On April 25th 2010 these two sides met in the final of the Division 2 Cup at the ground of Blackpool Wren Rovers FC.  It turned out to be one of the best Divisional Cup finals of recent seasons as in a match of changing fortunes, Spindles FC lifted the Cup after winning 5-4 on penalties, the score being 3-3 after 90 minutes.  Both sides also achieved promotion from their respective Divisions.  Spindles FC finishing fourth in Division 2A whilst Christ the King FC, then playing as the Progress Sports & Social FC, took the Division 2B title by a point from Highfield Social FC.

In my view, there's a considerable step up in quality when sides reach Division 1. It's often the most competitive and hard fought Divison in the Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Football Alliance and this season it's proved to be no different.  Both of today's teams initially took a little while to acclimatise in the higher Division but in recent months they have both hit form and with little over nine weeks of the season to go both look good bets to be playing Premier Division Sunday football next season.  Christ the King were third in the table this morning with Spindles just a point behind in fourth with two games in hand.

The clubs were still to face each other in league action so this was their first meeting since that dramatic Cup final of last April.  Christ the King FC were unbeaten in their last nine league and Cup matches having last tasted defeat away at Wrea Green FC in round 4 of the Gledhill Cup on November 7th.  They hadn't been beaten in the league since the end of August.  They'd reached today's quarter-final by beating Premier Division side Blackpool Rangers FC in round 2 after an opening round bye.

Spindles FC were also enjoying a decent run of form.  They were unbeaten in the league for seven matches although last week's 1-1 draw against bottom club Uncle Toms helped highlight the competitive nature of Division 1.  They've always been a good Cup side and in the Gledhill Cup they showed their pedigree once again by beating DH Gas FC, Stable Bar FC and Gardeners Arms FC before falling to holders Poulton SFC in the last eight.  They reached today's Divisional Cup quarter-final by beating Uncle Toms Cabin and Golden Eagle in earlier rounds.

John Hay was the listed official for this morning's game.  The heavy frost that was forecast for overnight fortunately failed to materialise and after a week without rain the Boundary Park pitches were in good condition for early March.  The weak sun was shining, there was a chill Southerly breeze and the temperature stubbornly remained below five degrees.  At 11am this much anticipated contest was underway with Christ the King in the luminous yellow kicking off.

On 27 minutes Christ the King FC took the lead against the run of play.  Spindles, with the breeze on their backs, had enjoyed a great spell of offensive possession but couldn't find the net.  The left back collected a throw from his keeper but was badly disposessed by Gill.  He swung in a fantastic bending cross and the unmarked Andy Brown powered a bullet header past Morrell.  1-0

Once again, it was Spindles who had the best of the opening exchanges but although they placed the Christ the King rearguard under some pressure they again could not convert their chances.

On 83 minutes, Christ the King sealed the win.  A Spindles attack was hoofed clear from the edge of their own area.  Bradley Gill was on to it like a flash and his pace and strength took him clear of the defenders and from the angle he smashed it past Morrell and into the back of the net.  Two similar efforts earlier in the game had flown dangerously across the six yard box and away to safety but he got it right this time.  2-0

Just as the clock ticked into the 90th minute Spindles pulled one back thanks to Kyle McAdan who converted powerfully at the back post.  Spindles want the ball back quickly but Christ the King were unwilling to oblige.  2-1

Sportspy Reports - Sunday March 6th 2011

Congratulations then to Christ the King FC who made it through to the semi-finals of the Premier & Division 1 Cup thanks to a narrow win against good opposition.  They are a strong team who work hard for each other and it is of little surprise as to why they have put an impressive run together.  There were too many cards for dissent today and Saturday ref's like John Hay only give them one warning and then they're in the book.  Manager Scott Buchanan was grumbling that they often only have a bare eleven plus himself and a young substitute to choose from so it is hoped that suspensions and heavy fines don't cost them a top two finishing place which they are more than capable of achieving.

Spindles FC can take a number of positives from this match.  For a twenty minute period in each half they put together a dominant spell of offensive possession and count themselves unlucky to have gone in one down at the interval.  They too are well placed for promotion and look good if they can convert a few more of their chances.  If you're at a loose end in the next month or so then you could do a lot worse than turning up to watch one of the two league encounters that are yet to be played between these two evenly matched sides as they are again likely to put on an unpredicable, exciting and battling show.  Good luck to Christ the King FC in the semni-finals.  Well officiated by Mr Hay.

News from the Lancashire Sunday Trophy semi-final (March 2nd 2011)

Just back from Brocstedes Park, the ground of Ashton Athletic FC, south of Wigan.  In tonight's Lancashire Sunday Trophy sem-final, BFSFA side Poulton SFC played some fantastic passing football to beat Rochdale Sunday league Champions Copperpot FC 6-0.  4-0 up at the break through goals from the impressive Catlow (2), Sharrocks (A) and Morris (D) they scored a killer fifth through Whittaker early in the second half before Daz Hall got a well deserved goal through a rare header to make it six. In all fairness they absolutely bossed the match from start to finish.  Keeper Speight never got his knees dirty.  Fingers crossed they can now go all the way and be the first side from the BFSFA to win the Trophy since the 1993/94 season.  Sincere commiserations to Copperpot FC and congratulations to all at Poulton SFC who now go on to face Preston side Greenlands FC at the County Ground, Leyland on Thursday April 14th in the final.  Two pictures attached.
