The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 17 April 2011

With the Premier Division title already decided attention in the G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance focused on the teams fighting to be promoted from Division One. In the clash of the top two sides Fleetwood Gym took a 2-0 lead in the first thirty minutes before West Coast Tackle fought back to win 5-3 inspired by the man of the match striker Ric Seear who scored four goals with the other goal from Rob Higgins and Robbie Boal (2) and Liam Forrest replying. The teams are now level on points but Gym having a game in hand. Bloomfield Vets got back to winning ways with the 6-0 victory over Golden Eagle with Benjamin McKay`s two goals leading the scorers. Doubles from Mark Gillett and Courtney Smith clinched a 6-3 win for Christ the King against Shovels with Peter Clarkson getting a hat trick for the losers. A Stuart Holloway treble earned Highbury Vets a 4-1 success over The County.

In the Premier Division Gardeners Arms finished their season with a 3-0 victory over Blackpool Rangers with Mark Butler Adam Huttley and Lee Impett on the score sheet. They are now second but Poulton SFC who won the Lancashire Cup last week have three games left and are favourites for the runners up spot.

Northern Care Colts kept in touch with the leaders in Division Two after beating Squirrel 2-1 with Carl Faber and Marc Robinson netting. With games in hand Tower Lounge are still challenging after a Nick Devereaux goal gave them a 1-0 victory over C & G Electrical. Wrea Green won 4-0 against Fleetwood Kings with Kevin Beig and Sam Weatherby getting doubles. Kyle Weaver`s pair gave Blackpool Catholic Club a half time lead against Dockers with further goals from Damian Clayson Daryl Taylor and Mark Arrowsmith earning the 5-0 win.

Division Three champions Boars Head celebrated winning the title with the 6-0 defeat of Old England with Lee O`Neill and Craig Harding both netting twice. Runners up Blackpool Lane Ends beat Marshall Court 3-0 with Darren Meehan (2) and Jeff Blincow on target. Goals from Ashley Baines Nathan Shelliker and Adam Wilson gave Lane Ends a 3-2 victory over F C Rangers. A Liam Boyle hat trick secured a 4-0 win for Hansom Cab against AFC Bloomfield.

The Sun Inn lifted the Division Four Cup after beating Metrostars 3-1 with Mark Yates converting a first half penalty and Paul Gaskell scoring two second half goals.  Stable Bar were crowned Division Four champions after defeating CBFC Choice Furniture 5-3 with a Shaun Worden double and Chris Hastwell Stephen Miller and Dean Smithen also on the score sheet.

Sportspy Reports - Sunday April 17th 2011

This morning saw the first of the three Divisional Cup finals.  Collins Park, Blackpool was the venue for the Division 4 Cup final between Metrostars FC and the Sun Inn FC.  Glorious spring conditions for the 10:30 kick off.  Both teams were unfancied to reach the final earlier in the season but having done so, they were both intent on enjoying every minute of it.  Who would go on to lift the silverware?

Sportspy Reports - Sunday April 17th 2011

Yesterday morning, Collins Park received a nice cut and trim in anticipation of today's Division 4 Cup final and this combined with blue skies, no wind and warm sunshine we couldn't have hoped for better conditions.  With three league games left to play the Sun Inn FC still have an outside chance of runners up spot although with a seven point gap between them and current incumbents No 1 Club FC this looks unlikely.  Five wins from the last six had placed them second in the form table behind likely champions Stable Bar FC who were the last team to beat them.  Manager Michael McHenry's team had reached today's final following wins against the Waterloo Pub, DH Gas and the Stable Bar.

Today's other finalists were Metrostars FC.  The team were sixth in the Division this morning and with one game left to play it looks very much as though that's where manager Chris Paul's side will finish.  Gledhill Cup interest ended in Round 1 after a 3-1 defeat to Grand Designs FC.  In order to reach this morning's final they had to put out Philharmonic FC, Fylde Coast Vets and Lane Ends Reserves FC.  In the two league games between the pairing, the Sun Inn FC had come out on top having taken all six points.  This, along with recent form placed the Sun Inn FC as strong favourites at the local book-makers but Cup football is an unpredictable science.

Both teams were relegated last season thanks to their lowly finishing positions in Divisions 2A and 2B.  Both teams had re-grouped and after mixed starts appeared to improve as the season went on.  Today's Cup final was a reward for those efforts.  Few would have predicted the line-up for this final so both teams were making the most of it fully intent on enjoying every minute.  Cup finals don't come along very often for Sunday footballers in the lower leagues and that makes it one of the best occasions of the season.

The referee for today's final was Simon Moore.  Conditions were perfect for the 10:30am kick off with a sizeable crowd enjoying the warm weather.  The Sun Inn kicked off wearing their orange strip.

Lancashire Sunday Trophy Final - Thursday, April 14th 2011

Just back from the County Ground, Leyland where BFSFA side Poulton SFC were up against Preston side Greenlands FC in the prestigious Lancashire Sunday Trophy Final.  Both teams had done well to reach the final knocking out a number of so called 'Big Guns' along the way including Poulton's impressive 6-0 win against favourites and previous winners Copperpot FC of the Rochdale Sunday Football League.  Poulton were looking to be the first winners of the Trophy from the BFSFA since the 1993/94 season.

Final score : Poulton SFC 3 – 2 Greenlands FC

Lancashire Sunday Trophy Final - Thursday, April 14th 2011

By kick off time, the wind had dropped to nothing leaving perfect conditions for football on a surface that is rarely bettered anywhere at any level.  There was a big crowd and despite a sizeable following from the Fylde we were outnumbered by about for to one.  It was even an even opening whilst both teams settled.  Alan Thompson had the best chance for Poulton following a swift incision upfield when his powerful shot flew over the bar.

Greenlands FC were bravely playing a high line and Danny Morris was getting a bit of stick from the home support.  The laughing stopped on 22 minutes when he broke the offside trap on the right wing, left the defenders in his wake and smashed it across the keeper into the far corner.  1-0.  Poulton SFC were on top and playing good football on the break but all too often they were just one pass short of putting players in on goal.

Greenlands stuck at it and were rewarded on forty minutes.  A cross into the Poulton box was poorly defender and the unmarked greenland's player powered a finely placed header past Speight to equalise.  1-1 and that's how it was at the interval.

Poulton SFC came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and hit the bar sixty seconds in after a bouncing ball in the area wasn't cleared.  Three minutes later and poulton regained the lead.  With greenlands persisting with the high line, Danny Morris raced away from the half way line once again.  He drew the keeper, gave him the eyes to shoot but sensibly squared it for Darren Hall to slide in and slot it home.  2-1.  On 55, Poulton looked to have made it safe.  This time they sprung clear on the left.  The ball was played across for Lee Catlow who took a touch and hit it left footed into the bottom corner.  3-1.  Poulton in dreamland whilst Greenlands looked down and out.

You have to give Greenlands credit as they quickly re-grouped and took the game to poulton.  They enjoyed good spells of possession and probing.  On 67 minutes they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Poulton area and the low drive went under the wall and past Speight 3-2 and game on. Greenlands pushed hard for the equaliser but still looked susceptible to the quick break but Poulton were no longer keeping the ball as they did earlier.  Stout defending ensured that they held out to the final whistle.  Well done to both teams for a final that kept everyone on the edge of their seats to the end.  To sum, the best team won but made hard work of it due to a gutsy performance from the opposition.

Congratulations to Poulton SFC on winning the Lancashire Sunday Trophy which is a great achievemement for all concerned. On the last couple of occasions I've stayed to capture the celebrations of the winning Preston sides after they'd beaten Quills so it was nice to be on the winning side at last and well done to the BFSFA for having one of our teams lift the Trophy.  Let's continue our recent record of getting teams to the final and let's try our utmost to keep the famous Cup on the Fylde Coast.

Here are a few pictures before it got too dark for the camera as well as a memorable video.

The G Casino Blackpool & Fylde Sunday Alliance Report 10 April 2011

Out early this morning at Commonedge Road, Blackpool for the beginning of a very long day as a number of games were kicking off early in anticipation of the Arsenal FC match.  Once again, the Edge was the venue for the Divisional Cup semi finals, this time for Divisions 2 & 3 in a rather truncated 'Sportspy Reports'.

Out on Pitch 8, the semi final between Division 2 sides Real Burlington FC and Tower Lounge FC (Red and white) kicked off just before 10am.  It was rather an uneventful first half.  In the second period the Lounge raced into a 3-0 lead before Burlies bravely pulled it back to 3-2 but Tower booked their place in the final thanks to a Chris Preece free kick that made it 4-2 and game over.

A top video (unless you're a Real Burlington fan).  Tower Lounge FC are 3-2 up against the Burlies.  There's not long to go and things are getting a little feisty as Burlington search for an equaliser.  Then Tower Lounge are awarded a free kick on the edge of the box.  Up stepped Chris Preece – Pick that one out!

Results - Sunday April 10th 2011

In Cup action, the Tower Lounge and Teamsport (On pens) both progress in the Division 2 and 3 Cup.  In the Premier Division, Devonshire Arms are still in with a chance of the runners-up spot, whilst Newton Arms secured their second victory of the campaign.

In Division 1 Golden Eagle remain in the drop zone as Fleetwood Gym edge closer to the Premier Division.  Bloomfield Vets get a surprise drubbing courtesy of Great Eccleston.  Mythop Leisure gain a good win over Highbury Vets, and Shovels and Additions play out a draw.  Arguably the game of the day in the Division ended with Christ The King overtaking their rivals Spindles in a nine goal thriller.  West Coast Tackle kept up the pressure on Fleetwood Gym with three points versus Uncle Toms.

In Division 2, C& G thrashed Layton, Tangerine Tavern and Northern Care Colts further improved their chances of promotion with victories against CTK FC and Blackpool Catholic Club respectively, whilst Fleetwood Kings disposed of bottom side Travel Village 3-1.

In Division 3 the Boars Head further increased their title credentials with a win over St.Annes, and FC Kingsfield beat bottom side Blue Room.  FC Rangers could only manage a point against Mere Park in their quest to catch the top two, whilst Wilo secured an excellent victory over fourth placed AFC Bloomfield.

In Division 4 the Stable Bar picked up a victory over DH Gas stealing a march over the No1 Club who had no game – one more point required for the title.  Philharmonic and Cuban Allstars played out a draw, and Metrostars had a narrow win over Choices Furniture.  The Sun Inn hammered Lane Ends Reserves 7-0 and finally, the Clifton Arms and Xceptional Kitchens game which had no fewer than eleven goals in it, saw Xceptional come away with the spoils.
