The President's Cup takes place in the West Lancs Football League between the teams in Division 1.  Local side Norcross & Warbreck FC are having a great season and as we enter April the team are currently in second place and if results go their way they'll have every chance of joining our other local sides (Blackpool Wren Rovers, Poulton, Thornton Cleveleys and Freckleton in the Premier Division.  Last Saturday afternoon they were up against Barrow outfit Crooklands Casuals FC at the neutral venue of Wyre Villa FC on a fine afternoon in the semi final of the President's Cup.

The visitors took the lead on only five minutes after Carl Davis drove the ball past Norcross keeper Josh Woods into the bottom left hand corner.  On ten minutes Norcross player Stuart Holloway was the first of nine players to be booked by referee Paul Tully.  Early doors, it was all Crooklands until Norcross finally settled down. On 20 minutes, Poulton SFC player Carl Eastwood equalised for the home side to make it 1-1 and that's how it stayed until the break.   On 50 minutes, Norcross were in the lead for the first time after centre half Neil Kirton controlled and turned his marker sharply to score.

On 70 minutes young Kirton was also booked.  As tired legs set in, Crooklands equalised to make it 2-2 following a fast flowing move of good football, Dave Mansergh the scorer. With the game looking like it was heading for extra time, Carl Eastwood nipped in to score an important third.  Crooklands heads went down and the victory was complete for Norcross after Chris Openshaw made it 4-2 and killed the game off for the oranges.

Our correspondent John McNicholas enjoyed the game and that the nine bookings, although all fully deserved (unsurprising viewpoint from a fellow whistler) did not reflect the game that was generally played in a godd spirit between two competitive teams.  Good luck to Norcross in the final (Date and venue to be set).
