Sportspy Reports – Sunday August 30th 2009.

A Christening restricted my viewing options to fifteen minutes at Commonedge Road but still time enough to take some pictures and video of the first round Lancashire Sunday Trophy tie between Real Burlington FC and Wigan side North Star FC.

North Star FC (Black & White stripes) finished bottom of the South Lancs Counties league last season but they've still managed to maintain their Premier Division status.  This is the second season in the BFSFA for Real Burlingon FC who went in to today's game still unbeaten in the league after two wins and a draw.  In the first round of the Gledhill they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by the Golden Eagle.  A disastrous start for the home side as they found themselves 2-0 down by 11:03.

Eight subs for Burlies – enough for a reserve side – I'll have a recount mid February.

Mr Nay.

Chris Nay.

A good take by the Burlies' keeper. (The flying banana)

The North Star forward just fails to connect with a stopping header.

Jamie Nay is fouled ten yards outside the box – free kick.

Up steps Michael Nay to convert an excellent free-kick into the stiff breeze.  1-2

Burlies' liner.

Away contingent.

The Burlington keeper just about manages to keep out a vicious dipping North Star volley – top save.
