Fair Play Penalty Prize Shootout This Sunday Snaps From The Top – Sunday 3rd May 2009
Division 2A has been a top Division all season and how fitting it should be that it should go all the way until almost the last day of the season before being decided. It's been a two horse race between FC Eden and AFC Additions for a couple of months. In the two league games they each gained a win and in the recent Division 2 Cup final they met again with Eden coming out on top. This morning FC Eden and AFC additions were first and second respectively on the same points. FC Eden had a slightly better goal difference of four goals which is nothing in Sunday Football.
AFC Additions were at home to Spindles FC whilst FC Eden were at home to Mythop Leisure FC. These two sides recently met in the Division 2Cup semi-final and in that game Mythop gifted Eden an early lead. They did the same today enabling Eden in the blue to settle quickly. Mythop were making things difficult for Eden and Matt Rainbow was running rings around the Eden rearguard causing all kinds of problems. Shortly before the break FC Eden scored a classy second with a great strike from the edge of the box.
2-0 then at the break and news was leaking through that AFC additions were 4-2 up so things were still on a knife edge. Not long into the second half Mythop deservedly pulled one back. Rainbow beat about five players before laying it off for a colleague who slotted it past the keeper. A nervy twenty minutes then ensued for Eden and you could smell the fear from the sidelines as Mythop pushed for an equaliser that would have meant second place for Eden but then Ryan Bingham raced clear and fired left footed across the keeper to put his side 3-1 up. News filtered through from Broadwaters that AFC additions had won 7-4 so Eden only needed to hang on to the win which they did. A good effort from a hard working and skilful looking Mythop who belied their league position. If we see more consistency from them next season then they may challenge for promotion.
Well done to FC Eden on their second consecutive title in only their second season in the BFSFA and commiserations to AFC Eden who more than played their part in a memorable season in Division 2A. Maybe both clubs will renew their rivalry in Division 1 next season. Well refereed by James Taylor.
Just like the last time these two sides met FC Eden take a very early lead.
Unlike last time Matt Rainbow (red boots) was available for selection and the Eden players never got near him for 90 minutes.
The grass again too long at Boundary Park.
