Mereside friendlies – July 27th 2008

With only two weeks left before the start of the season it was time to dust off the camera.  At last we had the weather and conditions typically associated with summer friendlies.  Plenty of sweat and blisters.

Last season's Division 3B runners up Burlington FC (Red) have renamed as AFC Marton.  They were taking on new side FC Gretone (3A) who looked useful.  Most of their lads have come up from junior football and were held together by the experienced Chris Shields at the back.  In the early stages the youngsters were giving Marton the runaround and should have been 3-0 up early doors but when I left it was only 1-0.

Mr Bascombe getting a nice tan.

Still in better shape than most of his team mates and opponents – Chris Shields.

Experience?  Shields wins the header – free kick – What for ref?

After two golden opportunities FC Gretone finally take the lead at the third attempt from a yard out.

Keep your eye on the ball and not the man.

Where did they get that kit?

On the adjoining pitch Foulds Metals FC (Last season's Ship Hotel FC – Yellow) were taking on FC Brun Grove (Last season's Bloomfield Hotel FC.

Referee Mr McNicholas sweating off a few pounds  – it'll all be put back on again later in the Bispham Hotel.

Lovely fingernails.

Good save !
