December 23rd 2007 – Frost accounts for both LFA games.

Double disappointment this morning as both of the LFA Sunday Trophy games planned were called off due to the frost.  Chris Cairns (Pictured) is raring to go and goes to great lengths in order to keep his hands warm.

I was looking forward to seeing Poulton SFC take on New Meadow Street Labour Club FC in the last eight of the Lancashire Sunday Trophy but early this morning the pitch in Penwortham, Preston was deemed unsafe due to the heavy overnight frost.

The fall-back position was Blackpool Rangers 5th Round LFA tie against Success to the Plough FC (Rochdale) at Boundary Park.  Although the Plough side travelled the referee from Rochdale ruled that Boundary Park was also unfit.  Even a quick dash by the officials to Commonedge brought no joy as the ref remained unmoved.  Talk of waiting for a thaw was discussed but even if it did improve the juniors would have played on them this afternoon.

Back home then for Christmas cheer.  If there's any matches re-arranged for Sunday December 30th I'll let you know.

Update:  One match that did go ahead was the LFA Round 4 match between Littleborough and Burnley side Rose & Thistle.  The Thistle won 3-1 and in the process set up a fifth round tie with Alliance champions and last season's losing finalists Quilligans.  This game will take place at Collins Park on Sunday December 30th with a 12:30 kick off.

'Gorillas in the Mist' – From left to right, Plough manager, Rangers manager John Miles, listed linesman John McNicholas and league supremo Dennis Peters discuss possible scenarios.

Chris Cairns – 'Let's get it on!'

The Rochdale Ref (Left) cannot be talked into it.

The Rangers rabble out of bed early for nothing.

It may look pretty but there was to be no football this morning.
